A true story with forwards by Mark Victor Hansen and Stephen Sinatra, MD
As a child I dreamt of flight. As a man, my mother’s gifts would indeed lead me to a leap of faith, to strap on wings and fly like the birds.
I awoke relieved, happy to have escaped from a bad dream. Then, slowly focusing, my eyes made out the intravenous drip bag seemingly floating above my head, and I began to decipher that I was in a hospital room. My bad dream was no dream at all, but a nightmarish reality. I instantly suffered from the onset of excruciating pain and the flashing recall of the events that landing me here. My life had drastically changed.
The day before, January 6, 1986, I had awoken to another beautiful Sunday morning in Hawaii. I lay in bed with my new girlfriend, thinking how lucky I was to live in paradise, to have a job I loved, and to have the freedom to fly at will. After a light breakfast, I went for my daily swim and a run on the beach with my two Doberman pinschers. As far as I was concerned, life could not get any better.
